The Clockwork Three : REVIEW

The Clockwork Three by Mathew Kirby was a great book!  I actually listened to this one mostly because I wanted to make sure it was going to be okay for my kids to read.  I was looking for a book in the steam punk genre that would be interesting enough yet something the twins could understand.  I love steam punk so much that I thought they might like it also.  I have not told them about this book yet but when I do and they read it I will post what they say about it.

As the review goes, I was very impressed with this story. It had some foundation in history but yet the magic and mystery it needed for the story to carry through.  The grammar and voice of the book were both suitable for younger readers yet  kept even me highly entertained. I laughed and cried and almost popped out of my seat with wanting to know what was around the corner.

I can not wait to introduce this new genre to my kids. I’m sure they will love it as much as I did, if not the genre then at least this book!

Legacy of the Clockwork Key: Review

The Secret Order Book 1 Legacy of the Clockwork Key by Kristin Bailey is not my first steam punk novel. It is the first that I’m going to review.  Let me start off by saying, I love steam punk!  If I could find a button or widget to place on this blog I would display it proudly.  This particular book had every single thing in it that makes for one of the best books of the year! It’s a fabulous read with great characters and the world building is amazing. Set back in the late 1800’s with Lords and Ladies and proper societies, main character Meg is enormous fun! She has some unfortunate events happen to her but remains headstrong enough to get through the mysteries that only she can solve. I am enthralled in this wonderful world of amazing gadgets and gears! Author Kristin Bailey is someone to keep your eyes on, she has a great flow to her writing and her imagination is so much fun.

Check out Kristin Bailey’s site (also in my side bar) here:

Also, don’t forget  Book 2 in The Secret Order, Rise of the Arcane Fire is due out February 4, 2014!!!!!!

The Raven Boys Review

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater was not what I expected. At all. After reading The Shiver Trilogy , I kind of  thought The Raven Boys would be similar to it. Maybe a cast off of some of the characters from Shiver. NOPE. Not at all. Was I disappointed? Um, well no. This new series was mysterious and engaging. I love how each character is so very different from the other and how well the characters mesh together despite their differences.  It’s not just about the characters though, the story itself kept me on me guessing and I still only got a  few things right. Barely.  I want to know more though. More about Blue and her family. More about Ronan. I want to know what Blue will do about her prophecy. fortunately for me the new book The Dream Thieves  is out and should be delivered to me anytime. I can not wait to delve back into the world of The Raven Boys and Blue.

On a side note. Maggie Stiefvater is a true artist. Not only is she a writer, she is also a musician,  and she draws.  Ms. Stiefvater is very talented. Check out her  impressive, self-made trailer here, just scroll down and push play: http://maggiestiefvater.com/the-raven-boys/the-raven-boys/

Lightpoints Review

I just finished the book Lightpoints  by Peter Kassan. Honestly I can say that it was a fascinating read!  The beginning was grasping in every way. I’m wondering if this will be a stand alone novel or the beginning of series.   I can see the main character, who is not exactly the heroine type,  growing into a very strong and very complex person.  I loved the way she was trusting yet kept her careful distance.  Even though there is an opportunity for more the ending did satisfy.  Peter Kassan is an author to keep an eye on.  Either for more books in this series or another stand alone, he has great story telling abilities.

Future Book Hang-Over

There are so many books in this vast world. How do you choose what book to read next? When you’re looking for a new book, how do you choose which books with go on your “to read” list? It can all get over whelming for sure. Just for an example, there is a new book in a series that will be released in November of this year. I want to read this particular book only, it is book #9 in the series and I have not read books 1-8 yet. So, I found myself with a passionate need to find every book in this series and start reading.

So this is where I am at the moment. Reading the first book in a series of nine so far. I want to review this book and spill my thoughts about it asap. I have painfully decided against it. I’m going to read the entire series, then come back here and pour out my feeling to the page. I will however say that the first book in the series has me captivated and has already made me stay up way too late last night to read. Unfortunately, I have prior commitments that need to be met and reading will have to continue tonight. Although I have less than half of the book to finish, I’m sure I will dive straight into the second right after the first.

I have the ability to see into the future. I see that I will have a “book hang-over” after this series is finished in the not so far away future.
